    A decentralized framework for multi-agent robotic systems

    Over the past few years, decentralization of multi-agent robotic systems has become an important research area. These systems do not depend on a central control unit, which enables the control and assignment of distributed, asynchronous and robust tasks. However, in some cases, the network communication process between robotic agents is overlooked, and this creates a dependency for each agent to maintain a permanent link with nearby units to be able to fulfill its goals. This article describes a communication framework, where each agent in the system can leave the network or accept new connections, sending its information based on the transfer history of all nodes in the network. To this end, each agent needs to comply with four processes to participate in the system, plus a fifth process for data transfer to the nearest nodes that is based on Received Signal Strength Indicator (RSSI) and data history. To validate this framework, we use differential robotic agents and a monitoring agent to generate a topological map of an environment with the presence of obstacles

    One presents in this work the study of the interaction between a focused laser beam and Si nanowires (NWs). The NWs heating induced by the laser beam is studied by solving the heat transfer equation by finite element methods (fem). This analysis permits to establish the temperature distribution inside the NW when it is excited by the laser beam. The overheating is dependent on the dimensions of the NW, both the diameter and the length. When performing optical characterization of the NWs using focused laser beams, one has to consider the temperature increase introduced by the laser beam. An important issue concerns the fact that the NWs diameter has subwavelength dimensions, and is also smaller than the focused laser beam.     Group IV semiconductor nanowires are characterized by Raman spectroscopy. The results are analyzed in terms of the heating induced by the laser beam on the nanowires.     Molecular analysis of menadione-induced resistance against biotic stress in Arabidopsis

    19 páginas, 6 figuras, 2 tablas.Menadione sodium bisulphite (MSB) is a water-soluble derivative of vitamin K3, or menadione, and has been previously demonstrated to function as a plant defence activator against several pathogens in several plant species. However, there are no reports of the role of this vitamin in the induction of resistance in the plant model Arabidopsis thaliana. In the current study, we demonstrate that MSB induces resistance by priming in Arabidopsis against the virulent strain Pseudomonas syringae pv. tomato DC3000 (Pto) without inducing necrosis or visible damage. Changes in gene expression in response to 0.2 mm MSB were analysed in Arabidopsis at 3, 6 and 24 h post-treatment using microarray technology. In general, the treatment with MSB does not correlate with other publicly available data, thus MSB produces a unique molecular footprint. We observed 158 differentially regulated genes among all the possible trends. More up-regulated genes are included in categories such as 'response to stress' than the background, and the behaviour of these genes in different treatments confirms their role in response to biotic and abiotic stress. In addition, there is an over-representation of the G-box in their promoters. Some interesting functions are represented among the individual up-regulated genes, such as glutathione S-transferases, transcription factors (including putative regulators of the G-box) and cytochrome P450s.     Variation in assignment of the COPD patients into a GOLD group according to symptoms severity

    Introduction: The Global Organization of Lung Disease (GOLD) classifies patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) taking into account the symptoms. The modified Medical Research Council’s dyspnea scale (mMRC) and the COPD assessment test (CAT) are used to assess these symptoms. In this study, we analyze the concordance of GOLD classification using mMRC and CAT. Patients and Methods: This is an observational study of a cohort of 169 patients with COPD, who were classified following the GOLD 2017 recommendations, using both mMRC and CAT. A concordance analysis was applied, and a ROC curve was generated to identify the CAT score that best concorded with the mMRC scale. Results: The concordance for the GOLD groups classified by CAT and mMRC was moderate (kappa 0.492). For mMRC score of 1 and 2, a CAT score of =9 and =16 showed the maximum value of the Youden index, respectively. By reclassifying the patients with the new cut-off points obtained, the best concordance was obtained between the cut-off point for CAT of 16 and for mMRC of 2, followed by CAT of 9 and mMRC of 1. Conclusion: Because of the deficient concordance between CAT and mMRC, we propose the use of new cut-off points in future updates of the GOLD strategy

    Optimization of a combined electrocoagulation-electroflotation reactor

    This work studies the efficiency of an electroflotation process for the separation of the solids produced during the electrocoagulation treatment of three different types of wastewater: kaolin suspension, coloured organic solution and oil-in-water emulsion. Additionally, a combined electrocoagulation-electroflotation reactor is designed and optimized taking into account the effect of current density, residence time, pollutant concentration and the ratio floated/settled solids. To do this, an experimental design with response surface methodology (RSM) has been used. Results show that electroflotation is a good alternative to the removal of oil microdrops and dyes, but it is not recommended for the separation of solids formed during electrocoagulation of colloid suspensions due to its high density. It has been found that the use of aluminium leads to better results than the use of iron in the treatment of oil-in-water emulsions and coloured solutions. In these cases, the use of a combined electrocoagulation-electroflotation reactor is recommended and the effect of the main inputs has been studied.Este trabajo estudia la eficiencia de un proceso de electroflotación para la separación de los sólidos producidos durante el tratamiento de electrocoagulación de tres tipos diferentes de aguas residuales: suspensión de caolín, solución orgánica coloreada y emulsión de aceite en agua. Además, se diseña y optimiza un reactor combinado de electrocoagulación-electroflotación teniendo en cuenta el efecto de la densidad de corriente, el tiempo de residencia, la concentración de contaminantes y la relación sólidos flotantes / sedimentados. Para ello, se ha utilizado un diseño experimental con metodología de superficie de respuesta (RSM). Los resultados muestran que la electroflotación es una buena alternativa a la eliminación de microgotas de aceite y tintes, pero no se recomienda para la separación de sólidos formados durante la electrocoagulación de suspensiones coloidales debido a su alta densidad. Se ha encontrado que el uso de aluminio conduce a mejores resultados que el uso de hierro en el tratamiento de emulsiones de aceite en agua y soluciones coloreadas. En estos casos se recomienda el uso de un reactor combinado de electrocoagulación-electroflotación y se ha estudiado el efecto de los insumos principales

    Full wave modelling of hts dual mode patch filters and staggered coupled-line filters

    In order to obtain high-power handling, dual-mode patch HTS filters have been analyzed through Green's function and desegmentation techniques. A precise circuit model has been obtained and applied to the filter design process, and useful design curves relating filter parameters and physical dimensions of the square patch have been plotted. Several designs have been made using them and then optimized with the Method of Moments in the Spectral Domain. For higher order circuits, staggered coupled-line HTS filters have been considered. The designs have been made using the method of moments to compute the coupling capacitances, and then optimized with the Method of Moments in the Spectral Domain.     MicroRaman Spectroscopy of Si Nanowires: Influence of Size

    Si Nanowires (NWs) were studied by Raman microspectroscopy. The Raman spectrum of the NWs reveals important thermal effects, which broaden and shift the one phonon Raman bands. The low thermal conductivity of the NWs and the low thermal dissipation are responsible for the temperature enhancement in the NW under the excitation with the laser beam. We have modeled, using finite element methods, the interaction between the laser beam and the NWs. The Raman spectrum of Si NWs is interpreted in terms of the temperature induced by the laser beam excitation, in correlation with finite element methods (fem) for studying the interaction between the laser beam and the NWs
